Our Complete Exterior Painting Process
“We use the very best products and do high quality painting at reasonable prices. Below is everything we provide at one fair price.”
Application of our special blend of mold and mildew killer:
This is a critical step in the Northwest and is often overlooked by other painters. During pressure washing mold and mildew spores might be missed. These troublesome spores can then grow and ruin your paint job in 24 months or less. This is so critical we do it on every home we paint and have done so for 18 years. For an additional charge we can add a mildewcide to your paint but this will only deter mold and mildew growth on the outside of your paint not underneath the paint.
Sound Quality Painting power washes your home prior to painting at no additional charge. In some situations the structure will be washed after the primers and caulking have been applied. This helps to prevent trapping water in the wood prior to the finish coat. We also use a power washer if paint stripping is necessary.
Sound Quality Painting will then wait for the house to dry. We do all scraping and sanding of flaking, chipping, or peeling paint and then prime all bare wood surfaces with either a high resin or an alkyd wood under coater.
Blistered siding will be brushed and back rolled at this time to help seal and hide for final coat appearance. Back rolling is not done at time of final spray application to ensure proper texture of applied paint. Not all severe blistering will be completely concealed upon completion.
Sound Quality Painting then caulks the entire house. We use a 45 year caulk and seal all windows if necessary, caulk the backs of highly visible lower Entry/Rear or Wrap-around porch and deck soffits, and caulk all corner boards, door jambs, cracks and any other places to make the final paint job look clean and neat.
All siding, trim, or other moldings that are loose will be re-nailed where possible or reasonable. Deep set nails and nail holes and will be spot filled with caulking to prevent water penetration. We can replace damaged trim or siding at a fraction of what it would cost by a building contractor.
After the house has had the proper time to dry, we will begin painting your home. Sound Quality Painting applies all paints according to manufacture specifications to insure proper warranty. Proper warranty includes applying the paint at a proper mil thickness wet or dry. Two coats will not add to or take away from the warranty. We apply all paint in a one or two coat process to the thickness specified by the manufacturer. If necessary we add more coats for coverage or hiding at our discretion.
All trim, window trim, corner boards, fascia, and door jambs are brushed and rolled with two coats of paint where appropriate. Gutters are painted with roller and back brushed for smooth finish. The body of your structure is painted using an airless sprayer while applying the paint at the proper mil thickness and overlapping by 50% to insure coverage and warranty. All primed and blistered areas were back rolled prior to spraying and will now have a total of 3 layers of paint.
We paint gutters the same color as your fascia unless you specify otherwise or gutters are high gloss and not paintable. The soffits are painted the same color as your siding unless specified in bid.
Paint sheens will be satin unless customer specifies otherwise. Satin sheens generally out-perform flat paints and are easier to clean.
Each house has its own characteristics. Primers, prepping techniques, and finish coats may be modified to maximize overall job performance.
Painting of the exterior of the house includes all original features built on the house. It does not include painting storm windows or doors, decks, sheds, metal railings, awnings, hot tubs, planters, light fixtures, or any other structure not part of the original house unless specified in the estimate.
Sound Quality Painting will clean the job site by picking up all trash, cleaning all walk ways, drive ways, porches, etc. We attempt to remove all paint chips caused by any sanding and scraping but due to the nature of the small chips and landscaping, not all paint chips can be removed.
Touch up Kit:
A touch up kit that includes a pint of each paint or product used is left in a labeled box for your convenience (when available). Each sample is labeled with the color name or number, type of product, sheen, and where it is located on the job.
Upon completion, Sound Quality Painting mails an invoice along with a touch up request form and customer suggestion form with a self addressed envelope for your convenience. We encourage all customers to send the suggestion form in whether positive or negative to help us improve our service.
“I am known for my high quality work. Please don’t ask me to skip steps in our process or use cheaper products that you provide. My reputation is what puts food on my family’s table. To do inferior work and use inferior products would eventually erode my company’s reputation and put me out of business.”
